The heavy-duty frame underneath the X-Series is the backbone of Western Star brute strength. It’s been engineered to stand up to the world’s most grueling heavy haul demands, while being lighter weight, durable, and easy to service. The high-tensile steel construction protects operators and helps to ensure vehicle stability, working hard to distribute weight evenly across the axles.
Every X-Series chassis was built with Truck Equipment Manufacturers (TEM) in mind, allowing for ease of upfit for a wide range of applications. Single Channel Rails
The X-Series offers the industry’s only high-strength, single-channel rail rated at 3.8 million RBM without an insert. Just as impressive is a 9.5mm rail that delivers the same RBM rating as an 11mm rail while saving nearly 100 pounds.
Optimized Visibility and Service Access
The TEM-focused splayed frame shape at the front of the chassis allows for lower engine and radiator packaging which optimizes hood slope for increased visibility and safety, as well as improved engine serviceability.
Full Parent Front Frame Rail Options
These frame rails eliminate the need for bolt-on extensions or reinforcement, creating the space required by plow, hydrovac, and tanker upfitters. Multiple options available.
Easier Upfit
Straight frame sections begin directly behind the cab and feature a constant flange-to-flange dimension. Using our proprietary digital frame layout tool, dealers make sure your trucks are spec’d to come direct from the factory with the space needed for easier upfitting.

Front Tow Assembly Options
A variety of towing devices can be mounted directly to the front frame head for maximum strength, providing up to 140,000 lb. tow capacity. Confidently pull your trucks or tractors free without damage.
Robust Routing and Clipping
Frame rail stand-offs keep wiring and air lines separated from the chassis, reducing corrosion, debris damage, and diagnostic time. Heavy-duty and TEM-dedicated routing and clipping options are available for more complex upfits.

PURPOSE-BUILT OPTIONS
The X-Series offers three bumper styles in various finishes and thicknesses, as well as a boxed-in bumper with an optional grille guard for logging applications.
Factory-installed Detroit® Twin Steer front axles are available with a 40,000-lb rating and set-back configurations for applications such as concrete pumpers. A set-forward axle prep kit option is available.
A number of towing device options can be mounted directly to the front frame head for increased strength and durability, providing up to 140,000 lb. tow capacity.
Durable, lightweight aluminum tool boxes are available in 18-, 24-, and 34-inch widths. All are locking and can be ordered with plain, polished, or diamond plate finish covers.
Battery boxes can be mounted between rails, inside the cab, or on the frame. All boxes are made from lightweight, corrosion-resistant aluminum for long life. A two-battery option is available for additional weight savings.
